As a lit journal dedicated to creating lasting opportunities for writers and artists to share their voices, we are committed to amplifying the experiences, stories, poetry, and artwork of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) and improving pathways for their own agency as readers, editors, and publishers.

This Expo Recommends #AmplifyBIPOC list highlights organizations, publications, writers, artists, etc. that support and represent the work of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC). Beyond race, many of the spaces and work included on this list also represent the dimensions of intersectionality and how sex, gender identity, age, ability, income, and community all shape experience.

Exposition Review is ecstatic to announce our latest issue has launched, Vol. V: “Act/Break”! With this new issue, we celebrate works across genres and hybrid forms, featuring writers new, established, and emerging from WriteGirl and the PEN America Emerging Voices Fellowship. After months of reading, editing, and design, it’s time to share it with the world.

That’s not to say this issue wasn’t without its last minute changes. Even though Exposition Review wasn’t able to host our regular issue launch party, we still found new and exciting ways to celebrate the work of our contributors.

Recap: Publishing Workshop with WriteGirl Goes Virtual

When Exposition Review faced the option of potentially cancelling our annual WriteGirl “Share Your Voice!” workshop due to COVID-19 concerns, we decided instead to make the presentation virtual and host it entirely online via Zoom thanks to WriteGirl. The workshop started on Sunday morning, March 15, and taught mentees and alumni of WriteGirl about the process of finding literary journals that fit their voice, polishing their submission materials, and submitting.

AWP Panel Recap: From Page to Stage: How to Write a Play That Will Actually Get Produced

#AWP2020 was one for the books, and not because of the usual literary masses swarming the host city. The Association of Writers and Writing Programs (AWP) Conference in San Antonio started on March 4th just days after the Mayor declared a public health emergency when someone who tested positive for COVID-19 had been released from the nearby Air Force Base where 100 cruise ship passengers had been quarantined. The declaration was made in order to protect the city from any other evacuees from entering, but ultimately was denied by the courts. However, within hours of this declaration, the organizers of AWP had a tough choice to make in whether or not to move forward with the conference.

We promise, this is not just a humble brag that we will be moderating a panel there (though you can see us on Saturday, March 7th at 9:00am at the panel From Page to Stage: How to Write a Play That Will Actually Get Produced).
