As our editors are hard at work putting together our “Spring” annual issue, we are also springing into 2025 with our first Flash 405 contest of the year!
From February 4 to March 5, we are accepting entries on the theme “Anchor,” chosen by judge and Expo Associate Editor Ashley Moon. Ashley is not new to Flash 405, having curated Composition: Reach, our second chapbook comprised of previous Flash 405 winners! We are thrilled to have her now take on the mantle of judge for our February contest.

The Judge: Ashley Moon
Ashley Moon is a reader, writer, and editor based in Los Angeles. She joined Exposition Review as an intern and associate editor in 2022. The Theme: Anchor
From Ashley:
“An anchor is something that holds you down. It can be a point of security, a point of support that keeps you grounded and safe, or it can be a prison, a weight keeping you from moving forward and dragging you further down into the depths.
I’m looking for stories about the things that hold people in place, whether that be the identities they cannot shake, the places that have sunk their fingers into them, or the relationships they cannot move on from, for better or for worse.”
Ready to start writing? We can’t wait to see what “Anchor” inspires!
Before submitting, we also encourage you to read the full contest rules and check out past winners, which you can find on our main Flash 405 page.
