Alexander DeSouza is an Indo-Canadian director known for an “old soul” sensibility that emphasizes timeless storytelling and visual precision. His work is characterized by a deep focus on character and atmosphere.
His latest short Holo premiered at the 25th Tribeca Film Festival in New York City and recently had its Asian premiere at the 30th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival in South Korea. His previous narrative directorial work includes the Golden Sheaf-nominated Mother’s Day and Skin, which premiered at the 23rd Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival before being featured on Film Shortage.
DeSouza’s versatility extends into the documentary and digital space, having been commissioned by CBC Arts to direct and write the documentary shorts Art in the Wild and Take a Hard Look. He is also the director behind the web series pilot Back to One.
As a co-founder and chief creative officer of The Wonderlight Company, DeSouza is currently focused on his narrative feature debut The Last Summer in Kampala based on his 2015 produced documentary.
A 2026 Top 30 Under 30 alumnus, York University BFA Film graduate, and alumnus of the Reykjavik International Film Festival Talent Lab, DeSouza is a full member of the Directors Guild of Canada, Directors UK, and British Academy of Film and Television Arts. He also serves as a voting member of the Canadian Screen Academy.
A Los Angeles-based award-winning Latino sci-fi and horror screenwriter, Alex Hernandez-Maxwell brings a unique global perspective to his work, shaped by living in three countries and nine states before the age of eighteen and meeting every kind of person you could probably ever meet. Being raised mostly on The Lord of the Rings, Twin Peaks, X-Files, and Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Hernandez-Maxwell attended the most illustrious ✨ film school in Dayton, Ohio, where he graduated before making a name for himself in screenwriting, regularly placing in well-known competitions before hitting the festival circuits with various projects.
In 2026, he’s had premieres at both Tribeca (Holo, short) and FrightFest in the U.K. (Another, feature).
