by Matthew Kolb
The white pine staves of
the west barn stand
against the snow.
It should’ve been safe
it was built to
hold
& we stood still inside
through the aphotic winter
but with the spring sun
came ivy blossoms pressing between
the crib planks
and an aperture for
the light
to seep through
and ruin us.
