Artist’s Statement
In my artistic endeavors, I delve into a sense of play as a trigger for my artistic creation, as well as in the quest for the interpretations that can be attributed to my pieces. I navigate the depths of the void, exploring its enigmatic nature, while embracing the whimsical and lighthearted aspects of existence. All of the above is framed by everyday life, where the simplicity and complexity of an ordinary and/or extraordinary event converge.
Basga was born in 1991 in the city of Oaxaca. He lived in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, from ages six to eight. He also lived in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, from ages seventeen to twenty. He returned to Oaxaca at twenty and has been there ever since. His interest in art began at a very young age, but it wasn’t until adulthood that he considered it in a professional context. He took every possible course in all artistic disciplines, eventually graduating as a graphic designer in 2019. In his art, he is highly interested in the playful, the void, and everyday life.
