Riding the Wild Railroad

Artist’s Statement

Visions are funny things in all senses of the word. They often come to me while I’m painting, and these pieces are from an ongoing series that I learn more about with each session.

There is a vehicle in this imagined place, a train of sorts that I have yet to fully realize. But I see and try to render scenes from a world where many curious people are continually embarking upon and debarking from journeys into realms they never knew existed.

Sometimes they tremble at the ride, at other times laugh. Some passengers are glad when the journey is over while others weep with despair.

That’s all I know so far.

But as the voices continue to speak through the mediums, I try to hear them singing into place like puzzle pieces sometimes do.

The landscape is always shifting and I can’t hear all the languages, so I often leave the lettering balloons blank, hoping I will someday learn what I’m being told.
