Recap: Short Play Reading + Workshop

This year’s Short Play Reading + Workshop combined one of our favorite #ExpoPresents events of the year (the reading of stageplays and screenplays published in Exposition Review) with one of our signature micro-workshops. This year, we headed to The Complex Hollywood and joined up with Hollywood Fringe Festival to bring works off the digital page and into the theater. We continued with a Q&A with the writers and directors followed by a micro-workshop focused on crafting short plays.

Exposition Review, Vol IV: “Wonder” Launch

Exposition Review is thrilled to debut our latest issue, Vol IV: “Wonder”! This volume is packed with multi-genre goodness, including more experimental narratives than any issue to date.

On Friday, May 3, Exposition Review’s editors, contributors, and community came together to celebrate the issue with our #ExpoPresents: Launch Party & Reading at one of our favorite LA bookstores, Skylight Books. Though this was our fourth issue and the second time we had the pleasure of hosting our launch party at Skylight, it was a night of firsts.

Recap: 2018 Short Play Series

For our 2018 Short Play Series, we gathered at the Skiptown Playhouse in Hollywood for a staged reading of four pieces—three stageplays and one screenplay—from Exposition Review Vol. III: “Orbit.” We were proud to showcase a group of talented Los Angeles directors and the actors they cast, and to see their interpretations of the published scripts unfold on the stage.

Recap: “Share Your Voice!” Seminar with WriteGirl and 826LA

In 2017, Exposition Review had the pleasure of hosting our first seminar and interactive workshop for WriteGirl at The Hatchery. WriteGirl is a fantastic Los Angeles-based non-profit dedicated to mentoring young women and developing their creative writing skills as they progress through junior high and high school, while The Hatchery is a unique co-working space and community of writers in the Larchmont area.

With the success of last year’s workshop–which resulted in the publication of pieces by WriteGirls Vivian Enriquez and Angela He in our “Surface” issue–we were looking forward to once again collaborating with WriteGirl and The Hatchery, but we couldn’t resist expanding our youth-centered #ExpoPresents to another creative writing non-profit: 826LA. This amazing organization provides free programs, including mentoring, workshops, tutoring, and more, to over 9,000 students in the LA area.

On August 26, we had the pleasure of debuting several new short plays for another #ExpoPresents event, our 2017 Short Play Series. We once again packed the house at the Chromolume Theater in Los Angeles for a special, one-night-only performance of four plays that originally appeared in our 2017 issue,  Vol. II” Surface,” and our 2016 Flash 405 contest.

Exposition Review, Vol. II: “Surface” Launch

Exposition Review is excited to announce that Vol. II: “Surface” is now available online!

When we posed the theme “Surface” back in September, we asked writers to submit to narratives that would play with the concepts of perception and self-reflection. We wanted fiction and fact and combinations of the two, and we encouraged writers to explore unconventional ways to tell their with our new experimental narratives category.

Recap: WriteGirl “Share Your Voice!” Seminar @ The Hatchery

Exposition Review's

WriteGirl has long been one of Exposition Review’s favorite creative writing non-profits. Not only does it help emerging authors develop their skills and receive invaluable mentorship, but given that Exposition Review is an all-female editorial team, we also love WriteGirl’s emphasis on empowering young women. Every year they work with over 500 girls throughout Los Angeles, and since their launch 2001, they have seen a remarkable 100% (yes 100%) of WriteGirls go to college.
