Recap: “Share Your Voice!” Seminar with WriteGirl and 826LA

In 2017, Exposition Review had the pleasure of hosting our first seminar and interactive workshop for WriteGirl at The Hatchery. WriteGirl is a fantastic Los Angeles-based non-profit dedicated to mentoring young women and developing their creative writing skills as they progress through junior high and high school, while The Hatchery is a unique co-working space and community of writers in the Larchmont area.

With the success of last year’s workshop–which resulted in the publication of pieces by WriteGirls Vivian Enriquez and Angela He in our “Surface” issue–we were looking forward to once again collaborating with WriteGirl and The Hatchery, but we couldn’t resist expanding our youth-centered #ExpoPresents to another creative writing non-profit: 826LA. This amazing organization provides free programs, including mentoring, workshops, tutoring, and more, to over 9,000 students in the LA area.

Exposition Review, Vol. II: “Surface” Launch

Exposition Review is excited to announce that Vol. II: “Surface” is now available online!

When we posed the theme “Surface” back in September, we asked writers to submit to narratives that would play with the concepts of perception and self-reflection. We wanted fiction and fact and combinations of the two, and we encouraged writers to explore unconventional ways to tell their with our new experimental narratives category.

Recap: WriteGirl “Share Your Voice!” Seminar @ The Hatchery

Exposition Review's

WriteGirl has long been one of Exposition Review’s favorite creative writing non-profits. Not only does it help emerging authors develop their skills and receive invaluable mentorship, but given that Exposition Review is an all-female editorial team, we also love WriteGirl’s emphasis on empowering young women. Every year they work with over 500 girls throughout Los Angeles, and since their launch 2001, they have seen a remarkable 100% (yes 100%) of WriteGirls go to college.

Recap: Waiting For Next, A Staged Reading

Waiting2Last weekend Exposition Review had the incredible honor of presenting a staged reading of Jeffrey Lo’s latest play, Waiting for NextIt took months of hard work to prepare for this special one-night-only #ExpoPresents event, so different from our signature panel/micro-workshop events, but we were thrilled to be able to defy the traditional role of a literary journal and help one of our contributors showcase and further develop his work.

We had a packed house Saturday night, August 27, at the Chromolume Theatre for the Los Angeles premiere of Lo’s play as well as an amazing post-performance Q&A with Jeffrey and a reception with the cast, catered by our own Annlee Ellingson!

Exposition Review Presents: A Staged Reading, Waiting For Next

WaitingForNextReading

Exposition Review has always been a multi-genre journal, publishing prose, poetry, and stage & screen. Yet we’ve always been aware that for the latter category, the plays we publish are not in their final form: they are meant to be performed in front of an audience. That’s why Exposition Review is so excited to announce that we’ll be helping one of our plays transcend the page!

Jeffrey Lo’s Where You’re From first appeared as a short play in Vol. I: IX Lives; now, it’ll be performed as a staged reading of a full play, Waiting For Next, at the Chromolume Theatre!
